Overview
Starting just south of the Kenya–Tanzania border, the Rongai Route is one of the most scenic and less-crowded paths on Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail takes you through charming farmlands, lush indigenous forests, and open moorlands offering breathtaking views and even the chance to spot wildlife along the way.

FULL ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival – Kilimanjaro to Moshi
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be met by our friendly team and transferred to your lodge in Moshi. Meet your mountain guide for a detailed pre-trek briefing and gear check. Dinner and overnight at the lodge (BB).
Day 2: Moshi – Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
After breakfast, drive to Rongai Gate (1,950m) where your Kilimanjaro adventure begins! Start trekking through a beautiful rainforest filled with birds and wildlife before emerging into the heather zone.
Trek: 3 hours | Overnight: Simba Camp.
Day 3: Simba Camp to Second Cave
Today’s trek is a steady ascent to the Second Cave (3,420m) with panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks.
Overnight at Second Cave Camp.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day
A relaxed day to help your body adjust to the altitude. You may take an optional hike up to 4,100m or enjoy short scenic walks around camp.
Overnight at Second Cave Camp.
Day 5: Second Cave to Kibo Base Camp
Cross the spectacular saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo — a lunar desert landscape that gives you a sense of walking on another planet.
Elevation: 4,720m | Trek: 5 hours | Overnight at Kibo Hut Base Camp.
Day 6: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
Your summit adventure begins around 11:00 PM or midnight. Climb slowly through volcanic scree in the moonlight until you reach the roof of Africa — Uhuru Peak (5,895m)! Enjoy your moment at the top of Africa before descending to Kibo for a short rest, then continue to Horombo Camp.
Overnight at Horombo Camp.
Day 7: Horombo to Marangu Gate – Departure
After breakfast, celebrate your success with your guides and porters. Descend through lush rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate and enjoy a small celebration before transferring back to your lodge.
End of the 7-Day Rongai Route Trek.
