Overview
The Lemosho Route is one of the most beautiful and varied trails up Kilimanjaro. Starting from the western slopes, you’ll pass through rich forests, rolling moorlands, and the dramatic Shira Plateau before approaching the summit via the Barafu route. It’s ideal for climbers who want breathtaking scenery and excellent acclimatization.

FULL ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival – Kilimanjaro to Moshi
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be greeted by our professional team and transferred to your lodge in Moshi. Meet your mountain guide for a comprehensive pre-trek briefing and equipment check. Dinner and overnight at the lodge (BB).
Day 2: Moshi – Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate (2,100m) for registration before continuing to the Lemosho trailhead. Begin your trek through lush rainforest filled with exotic birds and playful monkeys until you reach Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m).
Trek: 3–4 hours | Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp - Shira 1 Camp
The trail climbs out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone, offering your first stunning views of the Shira Plateau. Enjoy a gradual ascent with plenty of time to acclimatize.
Elevation: 3,500m | Trek: 5–6 hours | Overnight: Shira 1 Camp.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp - Shira 2 Camp
Continue across the Shira Plateau one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic sections with sweeping views of Kibo Peak. The trail is relatively easy, allowing time to relax and acclimate further.
Elevation: 3,840m | Trek: 4–5 hours | Overnight: Shira 2 Camp.
Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Ascend gradually to the Lava Tower (4,630m) for a valuable acclimatization experience before descending to Barranco Camp (3,950m). The landscape transitions from moorland to alpine desert and back to lush valleys.
Trek: 6–7 hours | Overnight: Barranco Camp.
Day 6: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Start the day by conquering the Barranco Wall a thrilling and scenic climb. Continue over ridges and valleys through alpine terrain to reach Barafu Camp (4,680m), your base for the summit attempt.
Trek: 7–8 hours | Overnight: Barafu Camp.
Day 7: Summit Day Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
Your summit push begins around midnight. Trek slowly through the freezing darkness, reaching Stella Point (5,756m) at sunrise. A short but rewarding walk along the crater rim brings you to Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa! After photos and celebration, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.
Overnight: Mweka Camp.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Departure
After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). Receive your summit certificate and bid farewell to your mountain crew. Transfer back to Moshi for a warm shower and celebration.
End of the 8-Day Lemosho Route Trek.
