The Northern Circuit is Tanzania’s most legendary safari route — a masterpiece of landscapes and wildlife that defines the spirit of Africa. From the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro to the endless plains of the Serengeti, every park on this circuit offers something extraordinary:
Serengeti National Park is the crown jewel of Tanzania’s safari destinations — a land of vast golden plains, dramatic skies, and abundant wildlife. Spanning 14,750 square kilometers, the Serengeti is world-famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, where over a million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles journey across the plains in search of fresh grazing.
This ancient spectacle is one of nature’s greatest dramas, attracting predators like lions, cheetahs, and crocodiles in pursuit. Beyond the migration, the Serengeti offers year-round game viewing, remarkable biodiversity, and some of the most iconic scenery in Africa.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural wonders. Covering over 8,000 square kilometers of highlands, savannah, and forests, it is home to the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a sanctuary for unparalleled wildlife diversity. The crater’s 600-meter-deep walls encircle a thriving ecosystem teeming with over 25,000 animals, including elephants, black rhinos, lions, leopards, and countless grazers.
Its lush grasslands, sparkling soda lakes, and acacia forests create a self-contained world of natural abundance. Beyond the crater, the conservation area embraces a unique balance between wildlife, landscapes, and the Maasai people, who continue to live in harmony with their environment.
Tarangire National Park is a hidden gem of northern Tanzania a landscape defined by rolling savannahs, ancient baobab trees, and the life-giving Tarangire River that snakes through its heart. Covering 2,850 square kilometers, the park is a sanctuary for one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, often seen moving gracefully in great herds across the golden plains.
During the dry season, Tarangire transforms into a bustling wildlife haven as countless animals migrate from surrounding areas to the river’s permanent waters. Here, lions lounge in the shade, giraffes stride across the horizon, and wildebeest, zebras, and buffalo gather in breathtaking numbers. The park’s ecosystem also hosts rare species such as the fringe-eared oryx, greater kudu, and the elusive tree-climbing python.
Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most picturesque and diverse wilderness areas a compact gem teeming with life and color. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, this 325-square-kilometer park is a world of contrasts: lush groundwater forests, open savannahs, and the shimmering alkaline waters of Lake Manyara that stretch to the horizon.
The park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions, a rare and fascinating behavior seen in few places on Earth. Its shores host vast flocks of flamingos, pelicans, and other migratory birds, painting the lake in hues of pink and white. Elephants wander through verdant woodlands, while hippos wallow in tranquil pools and troops of baboons among the largest in Africa thrive in the forest canopy.
Arusha National Park is a true gem in northern Tanzania — a landscape of remarkable contrasts and natural beauty nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, just a short drive from the safari hub of Arusha town. Covering 137 square kilometers, the park may be compact, but it offers an astonishing variety of habitats, from lush montane forests and crater lakes to open grasslands and alpine moorlands.
Dominated by the towering peak of Mount Meru (4,566m), Tanzania’s second-highest mountain, the park provides breathtaking scenery and a sense of tranquility rarely found elsewhere. The majestic Ngurdoto Crater, often called the “Little Ngorongoro,” shelters buffaloes, warthogs, and bushbucks, while the Momela Lakes shimmer with hues of blue and green, attracting flocks of flamingos and over 400 bird species.
